ABSTRACT
Objective: The present study was designed to evaluate the effects of Tamoxifen and Estradiol-valerate on trabecular bone loss in postmenopausal aged (15- 21 months) female albino rats. Setting: Basic Medical Sciences Institute, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, Karachi Specimen: Ninety bones comprising femur, tibia, and humerus (30 each).
Methodology: Histomorphometry used in which the width of trabeculae mapped out with the help of stage and ocular micrometer under low magnification of compound microscope.
Results: The trabeculae of Tamoxifen treated groups appeared to be of increased thickness with more wellorganized pattern of arrangement as compared to other groups. Conclusion: Tamoxifen increases trabecular (cancellous) bone thickness in ageing female albino rats. |
