ABSTRACT
Background: Canola oil decreases the lipid levels of the body. Objective: To observe the beneficial hypolipidemic effects of canola oil on omental tissue lipid with and without dietary atherogenic element.
Study design: Omental tissue lipid samples were obtained from sixty albino rats (equal number of males and females) divided into the five groups on the basis of different diet that is group A, B, C, D & E. Group A was fed on synthetic diet group B on low canola oil, group C on low canola oil with atherogenic element, group D on high canola oil while group E on high canola oil with atherogenic element (Table 2) Later on total lipid, total cholesterol and triglecerides were estimated in these tissues. Comparative study was done between different groups.
Result: Tissue total lipid (TL), tissue triglyceride (TG), tissue cholesterol (TC) were lower in groups taking dietary canola only in comparison with groups who were taking dietary canola & atherogenic elements. The comparative values between different groups. For total lipids the values were highly significant (P<0.01), between B & C, B & D, and B & E. These value were non significant (P>0.05) between C&D, C&E and D&E. For tissue triglyceride the comparative values were non significant (P>0.05) between B&C, C&D and D&E. while significant (P<0.05) between B&D and C&E, while highly significant (P<0.01) between C&E. For tissue cholesterol values were non significant (P>0.05) in B&C, B&D and C&D. While significant (P<.05) in C&E. Highly significant (P<0.01) between B&E and D&E.
Conclusion: The hypolipidemic effects of dietary canola were observed into diets with out atherogenic elements while addition of atherogenic element abolishes the hypolipidemic effects of canola. Omental tissue lipids were lower in groups taking dietary canola only (B&D) in comparison with the group taking dietary canola and atherogenic element (C&E). |
