PREVALENCE OF PERIODONTAL DISEASES AMONG SECONDARY SCHOOL CHILDREN (9-18 YEARS)

ABSTRACT
Objective: To find out the Prevalence of Periodontal Disease among school going children aged 9 - 18 years.
Study Design: Cross-sectional study comprising of 327 school children (186 males and 141 females) in North Karachi, Pakistan.
Results: The results of the study showed that the Prevalence of Periodontal Disease was 73.4%, and 53.8% of the study subjects had sub-gingival calculus, which is associated with gingivitis and Periodontitis. Conclusion: The nearly half of the population was having prevalence of sub-gingival calculus 53.8%. Calculus is recognized as a calcified matrix that can harbor Periodontopathic bacteria and subgingival calculus is closely associated with gingivitis and Periodontitis. |
