CLUB FOOT IN CHILDREN SURGICAL / OPERATIVE TREATMENT

ABSTRACT

A total of 50 cases of club foot were reported in the ward including both sexes and age group was ranging from 3 months to 3 years. The cases were rendered to surgical procedures according to the orthopedic protocol and followed up for one year to assess complications and desired outcome of surgery. RESULTS. Out of the total children presented with club foot, 74% were males and 50%(25) were between 1-2 years old. Total 45 cases (90%) were available for post treatment follow up for a period of 1 year The results of this study showed only 3 out 50 patients presented with inadequate or incorrect soft tissue release resulting in residual deformity or false correction and needed re-do surgery (6%) All the cases remained hospitalized for 3-5 days and only two (4%) showed wound infection while joint stiffness was noted in 9 (18%). The rest of all showed excellent correction, normal walking with planti-grade foot, no limping, minimal scarring and rigidity and 94% have no growth difference of both limbs more than 3cm. Joint stiffness occurred due to immobilization in POP casts, treated satisfactory with physiotherapy and was taken as good correction.
