ABSTRACT
Propionibacterium acnes are pleomorphic, gram positive, non-spore forming, anaerobic to aerobic diptheroid bacilli which are normally Non pathogenic to human.
We are reporting two cases of infection with propionibacterium acnes in Type II diabetic patients following routine rotator cuff repair. One patient was IDDM and the other was NIDDM. There was no implantation of prosthetic material in either case and both procedures were performed under aseptic conditions.
We review the risk in diabetic patients to develop post-operative infection of this rare origin.
