ABSTRACT
Objective:
1. To determine the prevalence of T. T vaccination coverage in women
of reproductive age in slum area of Karachi.
2. To determine association of different factors with TT coverage
in the same women in the same area.
Material and methods:
It was a cross-sectional study conducted in sharrefabad Karachi
from Jan 2007 till March 2007.A total of 512 females of reproductive
age (15-49 years) were selected through simple random sampling in
the intervention area. The data was collected through interviews
based on pre tested questionnaires. The data was analyzed in SPSS
version 11.5
Results:
In this study the TT coverage for women of reproductive age was
21.67%. The study revealed that 21.66% females who received TT were
more than 30 years ,while 15.05% were between 15-30 years showing
no statistical significance(p=0.117). Variables that was significantly
associated with vaccination status were marital status and having
more than one child. The majority (22.99%) of women who received
tetanus immunization were married while only 1.32% unmarried women
received tetanus immunization (p=0.000). When comparing coverage
of TT between women with 0-1 child and those with more than 1 child
the proportion among women with more than one child is significantly
higher 74.85%compared to those with 0-1 child 21.0% (p=0.000).
Conclusion:
Majority of females were not vaccinated according to WHO recommendation.
Marital status and having more than 1 child were variables significantly
