FREQUENCY OF CLASS II SUBDIVISION MALOCCLUSION
IN A TERTIARY CARE HOSPITAL

ABSTRACT
Objective: The
objective of this study was to find out the Frequency of Class II
sub division malocclusion reported in Karachi Medical Dental College.
Materials & Method: A Total of 384 patients (267
girls, 117 boys) referred to the Department of Orthodontics, Karachi
Medical Dental College, were evaluated in this study. These patients
were from the various parts of Karachi, Pakistan, and none of the
subjects had undergone previous orthodontic treatment. Orthodontic
examinations of the patients were carried out by the author and
co researcher. Patients with systemic diseases, missing first molar,
unerupted first molar, broken down molar, treated patients, patient
having orthodontic treatments, patients with systemic diseases were
excluded from the study. Four malocclusion groups were formed according
to the following criteria: Class I group, Class II, division 1 group,
Class II, division 2 group, Class II sub division right, Class II
sub division left, Class III group.
Results: Class I malocclusion was found in 45.8%
patients. Class II malocclusion is 45.1% while its subcomponents
of Class II, sub division right and Class II, sub division left
malocclusions were 6% and 4.9%, respectively. Class III malocclusion
was present in 8.1% of the patients.
Conclusion: These result suggest that almost 10
% class II malocclusion consist of sub division group. The study
with other similar study may help to build the orthodontic picture
of Pakistani patients. Key words: Malocclusion Class, Sub division
